Black-backed Thornbill hummingbird

The Black-backed Thronbill hummingbird is found only in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains in north-eastern Colombia, South America. Its natural habitats are the edges of subtropical or tropical moist mountain forests and subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland.

The male measures 9-10cm and has a short black bill that is slightly curved downward. The species is considered endangered because of the small range of its habitat that is diminishing to to deforestation, burning and overgrazing.
